Gavin has had a very keen interest in photography since receiving his first SLR camera as a birthday present way back in 1984. What originally started out only as a hobby soon grew into a passion and over the ensuing years Gavin has tried his hand at many different tyles of photography from landscape to macro, abstract to architecture, sports to portraiture and many, many more besides. He sells some of his work through one of the world's largest photographic stock libraries and his images have been used in advertising, editorial and greeting cards. The biggest driving force in his photography is his unquenched thirst for photographing people. As he says, "There is something about the interactive nature of a portrait session, the buzz, the energy, the look on the client's face when they see the final image that you just don't get when shooting anything else. It's highly addictive, thoroughly enjoyable but at the same time very draining." It is from this love of meeting and photographing people that Gavin founded QTPortraits at the beginning of 2009. This really opened the door for him and he has never looked back since. He has had the opportunity to work with some very talented creative people in the industry from other photographers to great models and very talented make-up artists. He was commissioned to photograph an award nominee for the BEFTTA magazine and was engaged to coach wannabe models as they embarked on their careers. During 2009 he was also fortunate enough to have been trained by three former holders of Photographer of the Year. Trading under the name Gavin Thorn Photography from his home/office in Guildford, Gavin is available for portrait and wedding photography through his two sites, QTPortraits.com and QTWeddings.co.uk. You can also follow him on twitter under the name @QTPortraits or on his blog, theLightMatters.com
